This piece was a part of Emerging Choreographers 2023 where 6 lighting designers, including myself, came together to decide color, and focus the DeMille Theatre's rep plot. Kenzie and I wanted to tell a story about individualism vs being a part of a unit. While the dancers were in the family portrait, I would take us into a flat isolation look. Once they started to break free and become their own people, I brought in the side light to add dimension and highlight their bodies. To play more with the idea of uniqueness, Kenzie placed the dancers in different wings so I could use different lighting for each unit.
